Welcome to the Tabor Community Arts Center (TCAC). We are happy you are considering music lessons for your child.

Parents have a definite role to play, especially in a child's earliest stages of studying a musical instrument. The younger the child, the more parent involvement is needed to help with practice. Parents of children younger than seven should be prepared to attend all lessons and work with the child at home to develop the habit of practice. Our faculty will assist you in learning the skills you need to be of assistance. You may be asked to clap to aide your child in hearing rhythms, or to count, or to recite a verse. Whatever it is, it will not be hard to learn, but will be an immense help to your child. Practice time can become a happy and engaging "together" time where both parent and child work on mastering skills.
Older children also need parental support. You should plan to periodically be present at lessons, and to communicate with the teacher about your child's progress. Parents can be helpful in going over concepts with children, and in helping to set up a positive home environment for practice
Lessons can be a new adventure for both of you. By working with your child, you can set the stage which will not only influence you child's mastery of music, but their mastery of all learning.
Music lessons are a lifetime gift from a parent to a child! Though they might not turn to out be a child prodigy, your child will benefit greatly by developing the ability to play and enjoy music.

While we understand that children may wish to participate in other activities during the year, we ask you for a year long commitment in order to ensure that your child will benefit from our teaching. Taking time off for other activities only serves to retard a child's progress. If children do not attend lessons consistently and do not practice on a consistent basis, they virtually forget all they have learned and need to return to the beginning, this is frustrating for both you and your child and is costly. Because we understand this, we require you to make a year long commitment.
Signing up for a year of lessons ensures that we will have the proper time to work with your child. Our year is divided into trimesters. Students are only allowed one absence per trimester. At the end of each trimester, there is a recital. Recitals serve to keep our students goal oriented and focused on specific outcomes. Participation in recitals teaches our students a whole range of skills and serves as the cornerstone of our program. Recitals are a wonderful way for our students and their families to celebrate their musical progress.
